The fox sees a bunch of luscious looking grapes and tries to reach them. However, they
are out of reach and he is finally compelled to give up. As he walks away in disgust, he
says to himself, "They were probably sour, anyway".

...Thus, the origin of the concept of 'SOUR GRAPES'.

Item #: lksrd113. Button: Trumpeter of Sackingen, from a poem by von Scheffel, published in 1853.

Several operas have been founded on this story of a young student of Heidelberg who is banished
from the university. He plays a trumpet very beautifully and after wandering about for a time, comes
to the castle of a baron and becomes a trumpeter for the castle. He falls in love with the baron's daughter.
Plots and misunderstandings follow, but all ends happily. Button is fashioned to a locket with chain or bowpin.

first appeared at age 7 in a play at the Boston Athenaeum. Her real debut was made 5 years
later in "Faint Heart Never Won Fair Lady" and from then on she played various comedy parts,
later forming her own company in which she visited the principal cities of the United States. Fashioned onto a locket.
