Several operas have been founded on this story of a young
student of Heidelberg who is banished
from the university. He plays a trumpet
very beautifully and after wandering about for a time, comes
to the castle
of a baron and becomes a trumpeter for the castle. He falls in love with
the baron's daughter.
Plots and misunderstandings follow, but all ends happily.
