Item #: myth2. Fairies at St. Cuthbert's Well. From a Longfellow's ballad, "The
Luck of Edenhall", which tells of an old painted goblet left by the Fairies
on St. Cuthbert's Well in the garden of Enenhall. According to the superstition,
should the glass ever shatter at a banquet, the vaulted hall would crack, flames
would burst forth and Edenhall would be in ruins. It is said that the goblet
is still in the possession of the Musgrove family in Cumberland, England. Fashioned
onto a small locket with chain or bowpin. Circa 1880's. Price $45.

Item #: myth1.Artemis (Roman-Diana). Daughter of Zeus and Leto, twin sister
of Apollo. A virgin huntress goddess. She was the goddess of
chastity
and had the power of inflicting or healing sickness. She was particularly connected
with
childbirth and was the
protectress of the unborn and the newly
born. As the goddess of birth she became connected with the lunar cycle
and hence was a
moon goddess. She passed even into the bible as "Diana
of the Ephestians" (acts 19). Under the name of Agrotera she was the
patron
of huntsmen and often depicted with hunting dogs. Fashioned into a necklace.1
