GAY 90's jewel buttons were the most elaborate buttons of the nineteenth century.
Beautiful, large, with
brilliant glass stones imitated every precious gem and
often were themselves of semi-precious stones,
set in metal rims of intricate
patterns. Worn on elaborate, lustrous fabrics, furs and opera cloaks, they are
indicative
of the ostentation of the era. Notwithstanding, they are amongst the
most beautiful buttons of the 1800's.
